PRIVATE RESIDENCE, LITTLE SILVER, NJ
When a young couple set to the task of restoring a Sea Captain’s house from the turn of the last century, it meant taking the house down to the studs and starting fresh. With great attention to detail, and the homeowner’s passion for historical research, the house was given new life while retaining its original character. Every part of the house was impacted- from new support structure to carry its aging weight to siding, windows and roof; staircases were recreated to meet current code and baths and kitchen were carved out of the existing space. As a “crowning glory”, the widow’s walk (belvedere) was restored and the house was returned to its former grandeur, while becoming wholly functional for a modern family.
